As a family and lifestyle photographer based in Valencia, there is nothing more meaningful than seeing the love stories I once captured evolve into something even more beautiful. This is one of those stories that reminds me exactly why I do what I do.

I first met Joni and Charlie during the summer of 2021 in Malta. They were traveling as a couple, full of joy and adventure, and we spent a golden evening capturing their love along a quiet Maltese beach. It was one of those dreamy sessions where everything clicked — their chemistry, the setting sun, and the stories they shared in between poses. I remember thinking, "I hope I get to photograph them again someday."

Fast forward to April 2025: my inbox lit up with a message that made me smile instantly. Joni and Charlie were coming to Valencia, this time not only as a couple but as a growing family — with their young son Dre and another baby on the way. It felt like coming full circle, from capturing a couple in love to photographing a family built on that same love. These are the moments I live for.

We met on a warm spring afternoon, the kind Valencia is famous for. Our first location was Torres de Serranos, one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Originally built in the 14th century, these grand medieval towers once formed part of the ancient city walls. Today, they offer a dramatic and historic backdrop with panoramic views over the old town. The surrounding plaza is ideal for playful, candid shots, especially for families with little ones. Kids love climbing the wide steps, and the soft afternoon light adds a golden glow to every frame. Watching Dre giggle as he ran between his parents, climbing the steps and exploring with curious eyes, was pure magic.

From there, we strolled through the winding streets of the old town and arrived at our second location: Plaza de la Virgen. Nestled in the heart of Valencia, this picturesque square is surrounded by stunning Gothic and Baroque architecture, including the iconic Valencia Cathedral and the Basilica of the Virgin. The gentle splash of the central fountain, cobblestone pavements, and soft pastel buildings make this plaza an ideal setting for more intimate, timeless portraits. As the sun dipped lower, golden light spilled over the stone facades, adding a romantic and ethereal atmosphere to our images. Joni gently rested her hands on her baby bump, and Charlie lifted Dre into the air with the kind of laughter only a parent can inspire. These quiet, fleeting moments are what turn into lifelong memories.

Tips for Planning the Perfect Family Photoshoot in Valencia

  1. Time of Day Matters: Book your session during golden hour (sunrise or 1-2 hours before sunset) for the most flattering natural light.
  2. Dress for the Setting: Neutral, earthy tones and soft textures photograph beautifully against Valencia's warm stone and greenery.
  3. Let the Kids Lead: The most beautiful photos often happen in the in-between moments. Let your children play, explore, and be themselves.
  4. Make it a Memory: Plan a post-session treat like ice cream at a local café. The day should feel fun and memorable for everyone.
